Statement of Authenticity

This jewelry is handcrafted in Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Inkas, and its villages in the Peruvian Andes. The creativity of the Quechua speaking Indigenous peoples of the Andes is expressed in the diversity of their crafts: colorful ceramics and intricate metal design often inspired by the cultures of their ancestors.

Families handpaint each clay bead and twirl metal wires with dexterity and speed. Each intricate pattern is repeated many times with accurate consistency, but new designs are forever created...

Many earrings are fashioned in alpacca metal (alloy of 800 silver and other metal) ornamented at times by natural elements such as turquoises, hematites, onyx, pre-Columbian coral, seeds…

Pendants made of ceramic are sometimes ornamented with motifs of Llamas or Nazca lines..

There are a few Alpaca Chullos and caps for sale also.

A Chullo is a cap which has side panels covering the ears. These items were handwoven by local Indigenous artisans who participate and benefit from Yachay Wasi projects. They are made of Alpaca wool and feature original and unique designs.

This jewelry and weavings are hand carried to New York City by Luis Delgado Hurtado, native of the Andean village of Acopia, and President of Yachay Wasi.

In December 2008, Yachay Wasi was approved as a member of eBay Giving Works.
