This jewelry in handcrafted in Qosqo (Cuzco), the ancient capital of the Inkas, and its villages in the Peruvian Andes. The creativity of the Quechua speaking Indigenous peoples of the Andes is expressed in the diversity of their crafts: colorful ceramics and intricate metal design often inspired by the cultures of their ancestors. Families handpaint each clay bead and twirl metal wires with dexterity and speed. Each intricate pattern is repeated many times with accurate consistency, but new designs are forever created. Earrings are fashioned in alpaca** metal ornamented at times by natural elements such as turquoises, hematites, onyx, pre-Columbian coral, seeds… Pendants made of ceramic are sometimes ornamented with alpaca motifs.
